School-Based Programs
Volunteers are recruited from the school and neighbouring communities, and read weekly or biweekly for half a day during school hours.
-
Children read ½ hour twice weekly
-
All reading is one-to-one
-
All materials are provided by VRP and the school
-
Volunteer training and a Police Reference Check are mandatory
-
When children achieve grade level reading skills, they graduate from VRP
-
All VRP children receive a certificate and gift of a book at the end of the school year.

The Volunteer Readers that come to read with students … are fabulous! Their dedication to supporting student success, fostering a love of reading, and helping students develop stronger reading skills is much appreciated. We value their commitment and always look forward to their visits with us, because they feel like family.
Principal Sharon Lin, General Crerar
